The Carbon Laser Peel – often called the Hollywood Peel or carbon facial – is a quick, non-invasive laser treatment for oily, congested and dull skin. A fine layer of medical-grade liquid carbon is applied to the face and allowed to settle into the pores; a Q-switched laser is then passed over the skin, and the carbon absorbs the laser energy, lifting away dead cells, excess oil and impurities while gently stimulating collagen.
At ACTYMED it is used mainly for oily and acne-prone skin, enlarged pores, uneven tone and a dull complexion, and as a no-downtime pre-event glow treatment. It is best thought of as a skin-refreshing and pore-refining facial laser rather than a treatment for deep pigmentation or scarring.
Frequently Asked Questions
How is it performed?
The skin is cleansed, a carbon lotion is applied and left to dry, and protective eyewear is worn. The laser is then passed over the skin in one or two passes; the sensation is warm with a light snapping feel. There is no downtime – most people return to normal activity immediately, with mild redness at most.
Which concerns does it help?
Oily skin and enlarged pores, blackheads and congestion, dullness and uneven texture, and mild, early acne. It gives a temporary brightening and smoothing effect.
How many sessions are needed?
Usually a course of four to six sessions, spaced two to four weeks apart, then occasional maintenance. A single session can be done for a one-off event glow.
Who should avoid it?
Active or inflamed acne flares, active skin infections or cold sores, recent isotretinoin use, sunburnt or freshly tanned skin, and pregnancy as a precaution. People with melasma are assessed carefully, as heat-based lasers can sometimes aggravate melasma – honesty about this matters.
Is it a treatment for pigmentation or scars?
No – it refreshes and refines the skin surface. Established pigmentation, melasma and scarring need dedicated treatments, which we will recommend instead where appropriate.
