Your health insurance likely covers inpatient Ayurveda treatment – and most policyholders have no idea. At ACTYMED, our team checks your policy, initiates cashless approval with your insurer, and prepares every document your claim needs. You focus on getting better; we handle the paperwork.

Did you know? In 2024, IRDAI (India’s insurance regulator) directed health insurers to cover AYUSH treatments – Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy – on par with conventional hospital treatment. If your policy was issued or renewed after April 2024, there is a good chance inpatient Ayurveda treatment is already covered up to your full sum insured. Most people simply never claim it.
Why Insurance Claims Get Approved at ACTYMED
Insurers approve AYUSH claims only when the treating facility meets their registration and infrastructure criteria. ACTYMED does:
- ROHINI-registered hospital – listed on the Registry of Hospitals in Network of Insurance (ROHINI), the national registry insurers and TPAs use to verify hospitals. Our Hospital Unique ID is 8900080659063 – any insurer can look us up in seconds.
- Registered under the Kerala Clinical Establishments (Registration and Regulation) Act, 2018 – Registration No. T32556AY12537, as a Multi Specialty Hospital under the Ayurveda system of medicine, valid through 2028.
- 10-bed inpatient facility at our Thodupuzha hospital, open 24/7 with qualified doctors, nursing staff and a dedicated Panchakarma inpatient unit.
- Claims experience with most major insurers and TPAs – our team prepares discharge summaries, treatment records and bills in the exact format insurers require, which is where most self-submitted claims go wrong.
How It Works: Two Ways Your Policy Can Pay
Option 1 – Cashless (we try this first)
- Share your policy details – a WhatsApp photo of your insurance card or policy front page is enough to start.
- We verify your coverage and confirm what your policy allows for AYUSH inpatient treatment.
- We send the pre-authorization request to your insurer or TPA with the treatment plan and estimated costs.
- On approval, you are admitted – the insurer settles the approved amount directly with us. You pay only what the policy does not cover, if anything.
Option 2 – Reimbursement (the reliable backup)
- You pay for treatment and complete your admission as planned.
- We prepare your complete claim file – detailed discharge summary, day-wise treatment records, itemised bills and doctor certification, all in the format your insurer requires.
- You submit the file to your insurer (online or through your agent) and receive the reimbursement directly to your bank account.
Either way, the documentation is our job, not yours. If a cashless request is declined – which sometimes happens for reasons unrelated to eligibility – the reimbursement route usually remains open, and we prepare you for it from day one.
What Treatments Qualify for Insurance
Here is the rule most people do not know: health insurance covers inpatient AYUSH treatment – typically an admission of 24 hours or more – not outpatient consultations or individual day therapies.
At ACTYMED, that means our structured inpatient programs at the Thodupuzha hospital are the treatments where your policy can genuinely work for you:
- Panchakarma Detox Program – our signature multi-day inpatient program through the Panchakarma department.
- Inpatient care for chronic pain and spine conditions through the Spine & Joints Clinic.
Equally important is what does not qualify: insurers pay for medically necessary treatment of a diagnosed condition. Outpatient visits, single therapy sessions, aesthetic treatments and purely wellness or rejuvenation stays are generally not covered – and we will tell you that upfront rather than let a claim fail. If you are unsure which category your treatment falls into, ask us – it takes one WhatsApp message to find out.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does my health insurance policy cover Ayurveda treatment?
Very likely, yes – if your policy was issued or renewed after April 2024, IRDAI requires insurers to offer AYUSH coverage on par with conventional treatment, and most retail health policies now include it up to the sum insured. Older policies may have a sub-limit or exclusion. The only way to know for certain is to check your specific policy document – send it to us on WhatsApp and we will check it for you at no cost.
Is there a waiting period before I can claim?
Standard health-insurance waiting periods apply to AYUSH treatment the same way they apply to any hospitalisation: usually 30 days from a new policy’s start date, and longer waiting periods (often 2-3 years) for pre-existing conditions. If you have held your policy for a few years, waiting periods are rarely an obstacle.
What documents do I need for a claim?
For cashless: your insurance card or policy copy, a photo ID, and the pre-authorization form – which we fill and send for you. For reimbursement: the discharge summary, itemised bills, payment receipts, treatment records and the claim form. We prepare the entire medical documentation set as a matter of routine for every insured inpatient.
What if my cashless request is rejected?
A cashless denial is not a claim denial. Insurers sometimes decline pre-authorization for administrative reasons – an unclear policy clause, a TPA backlog, a missing detail – while the same treatment remains fully claimable through reimbursement. If cashless is declined, we prepare your complete reimbursement file so you can still recover your costs after discharge.
Is ACTYMED a registered hospital for insurance purposes?
Yes. Our Thodupuzha facility is a ROHINI-registered hospital (Hospital Unique ID 8900080659063) and is registered under the Kerala Clinical Establishments (Registration and Regulation) Act, 2018 (Reg. No. T32556AY12537) as a Multi Specialty Hospital in the Ayurveda system of medicine, with 10 inpatient beds and round-the-clock clinical staff – the criteria insurers check before admitting an AYUSH claim. Both registrations are independently verifiable by your insurer or TPA.
Are outpatient consultations or single therapy sessions covered?
Generally, no. Health insurance covers hospitalisation – inpatient admission, typically 24 hours or more. Outpatient consultations, individual therapy sessions and day procedures are usually not claimable unless your policy has a specific OPD add-on. This is exactly why structured inpatient programs like Panchakarma are the smart way to use your coverage.
How do I check whether my policy covers treatment at ACTYMED?
Send us your policy name or a photo of your insurance card on WhatsApp at +91 94965 02248. Our team will check your AYUSH coverage, sub-limits and waiting periods, and tell you plainly what your policy will and will not pay – before you commit to anything.
A note on honesty: coverage always depends on your individual policy’s terms, sub-limits and waiting periods, and cashless approval rests with your insurer, not with us. We assist with verification and documentation at every step, but no hospital can guarantee approval. What we can promise is that your claim will be prepared properly – which is most of the battle.
