Lymphatic cupping is a gentle, moving form of cupping. Using light suction and a lubricating oil, the cups are glided smoothly over the skin rather than left in place, with the aim of supporting lymphatic flow, easing fluid retention and puffiness, and aiding recovery. Unlike wet cupping, it does not involve any blood – it is a soft, comfortable technique.
At ACTYMED it is used as a gentle recovery and de-puffing therapy – for sluggish circulation, mild fluid retention and post-exercise recovery, and cosmetically for the appearance of puffiness and cellulite. It is a supportive wellness therapy, offered with honest expectations about what it can achieve.
Frequently Asked Questions
How is it performed?
A light oil is applied and gentle suction cups are moved smoothly along the limbs or body in the direction of lymphatic drainage. It is comfortable, leaves little or no marking (unlike static cupping), and has no downtime.
Which concerns does it help?
Mild fluid retention and puffiness, a feeling of heaviness, post-exercise recovery, sluggish circulation, and the cosmetic appearance of cellulite.
Is it the same as wet cupping?
No – lymphatic cupping is gentle, moving and blood-free; wet cupping involves suction plus small scratches to draw out a little blood. They are quite different.
Who should avoid it?
People with diagnosed lymphoedema (which needs specialist lymphatic care), deep vein thrombosis, active skin infection, and pregnancy over the abdomen. We will refer where specialist care is needed.
What does the evidence say?
The evidence is limited and much of the benefit is subjective comfort and de-puffing; we present it honestly as a gentle supportive therapy rather than a medical treatment for lymphatic disease.
