Prakriti Assessment (Ayurvedic Constitution Analysis)

Duration: 45-60 minute consultation · Panchakarma, Ayurvedic Sports Medicine

Overview

Prakriti is Ayurveda’s core concept of individual constitution: the innate proportion of the three doshas — vata, pitta and kapha — that shapes your body build, metabolism, temperament, sleep, digestion and how you respond to food, exercise, stress and climate. Knowing your prakriti is what makes Ayurvedic care personal: the same knee pain may be treated with different oils, therapies, diet and daily-routine advice in a vata-dominant athlete than in a kapha-dominant one.

At ACTYMED, prakriti assessment is a doctor-led clinical evaluation — history, physical characteristics, digestion and sleep patterns, pulse and examination — not a two-minute quiz. Interestingly, this ancient classification has attracted modern genomic research: studies have reported genome-level differences between extreme prakriti types (Prasher et al., Journal of Translational Medicine, 2008; Govindaraj et al., Scientific Reports, 2015), an emerging field known as Ayurgenomics. Your result feeds directly into your nutrition plan, training and recovery guidance, and the selection of Ayurvedic therapies and oils.

Frequently Asked Questions

What will I learn from the assessment?

Your dominant dosha pattern (single, dual or balanced), what it means for your metabolism, recovery, sleep and stress responses, and the practical do’s and don’ts for your type — food choices, meal timing, training emphasis, seasonal care.

Is this scientifically credible?

The classification is ancient, but it is being examined with modern tools: peer-reviewed studies have reported genomic and biochemical differences between clearly typed prakriti groups (the Ayurgenomics field). We present that accurately — an intriguing, developing area of research supporting individualised care, not settled physiology.

Can I take a quick version online first?

Yes — our free 45-question Athlete Prakriti Self-Assessment gives a good starting picture, plus a diet-starter guide by dosha. The clinical assessment goes deeper and is what our doctors treat from.

Does my prakriti change over time?

Prakriti itself is considered fixed from birth; what changes is vikriti — your current state of imbalance. The assessment maps both, and treatment targets the imbalance while respecting the constitution.

How does this help an athlete?

It personalises the levers: fuelling style, warm-up needs, recovery emphasis, sleep strategy and injury tendencies differ visibly across constitutions. Combined with our sports-science assessment, it makes your programme genuinely yours.

Scientific Evidence

  • Genome-wide analysis reported molecular differences between extreme prakriti types (Govindaraj et al., Scientific Reports 2015)
  • Whole-genome expression and biochemical correlates of prakriti reported by Prasher et al. (Journal of Translational Medicine 2008) — the emerging Ayurgenomics field
  • Classical foundations in Charaka Samhita define the tridosha constitutional framework used clinically
