Back Pain

Evidence-based treatment for lower and upper back pain.

Overview

Back pain is one of the most common reasons people stop doing what they love. Most back pain is mechanical and improves with the right movement and treatment — not bed rest. Our team combines physiotherapy, manual therapy, exercise therapy and Ayurvedic pain management for real, lasting relief.

We treat muscle and ligament strain, disc problems, sciatica and posture-related pain.

Signs & Symptoms

  • Dull ache or sharp pain in the back Pain that worsens on bending or lifting Morning stiffness Pain radiating down the leg (sciatica)

How We Treat It

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I rest or stay active with back pain?

For most back pain, staying gently active speeds recovery. Prolonged bed rest usually makes stiffness and weakness worse.

When is back pain an emergency?

Seek urgent care if you have loss of bladder or bowel control, numbness around the groin, or severe leg weakness — these are rare but need immediate attention.

When is surgery indicated for back pain?

For back pain alone, virtually never — no operation reliably fixes non-specific low back pain, and international guidelines are firm on this. Surgery becomes relevant with cauda equina syndrome (saddle numbness, bladder or bowel changes — a same-day emergency), progressive leg weakness, or severe nerve-root pain persisting beyond 6–12 weeks of proper conservative care — where trials show surgery speeds relief but one-year outcomes match conservative care. Red flags are screened at every ACTYMED review.
