Should I use ice or heat on a new injury?
For a fresh injury, relative rest and gentle movement matter most. Ice can help with pain in the first day or two; heat is better for stiffness later on.
How soon can I return to sport?
It depends on the injury, but a structured, progressive rehab plan gets you back faster and safer than simply waiting for pain to disappear.
When does a sports injury need surgery?
A minority do: complete ligament ruptures in unstable joints (some ACL injuries in pivoting athletes), displaced fractures, full tendon ruptures, and locked knees from displaced meniscus tears. Most sports injuries — including many complete tears — rehabilitate successfully without an operation. Our role is precise diagnosis, honest counsel about which category yours falls in, and prompt surgical referral when it genuinely helps.
