Joint Bandaging with Murivenna / Anti-inflammatory Oils

Duration: 20-30 minutes · Ayurvedic Sports Medicine, Ayurvedic Orthopaedics, Physiotherapy and Rehab

Overview

This is a targeted external therapy for injured joints and soft tissue – the affected joint is treated with a classical medicated oil such as Murivenna (a traditional Kerala oil for injuries, prepared with herbs such as Moringa, pomegranate and garlic) or another anti-inflammatory oil, and then given a supportive bandage. It combines local oleation with gentle support and rest.

At ACTYMED it is used for sprains, ligament and soft-tissue injuries, minor traumatic swellings and sports injuries, and as supportive care alongside rehabilitation. Importantly, where a fracture or a significant ligament tear is suspected, imaging and orthopaedic assessment come first – this therapy supports recovery, it does not replace proper injury diagnosis.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is it performed?

The joint is assessed, warm medicated oil such as Murivenna is applied, and a supportive bandage is placed to give gentle compression and rest. It is reviewed and reapplied over the recovery period.

Which conditions is it used for?

Ankle and other joint sprains, ligament and soft-tissue injuries, minor traumatic swelling, tendinopathy and sports injuries in recovery.

Is it a substitute for orthopaedic care?

No. For suspected fractures, dislocations or significant tears, we assess and refer for imaging and orthopaedic care first; the oil-and-bandage therapy is supportive care within a proper plan.

Who should avoid it?

Broken or infected skin, active fever, and known allergy to the oil ingredients. Suspected serious injury is investigated before local therapy.

What evidence supports it?

Murivenna and similar oils have a strong traditional record for soft-tissue injury, and the principles of gentle compression and early controlled loading align with modern injury care. Formal trial evidence is limited, so we combine it with evidence-based rehabilitation.
