About Panchakarma
Panchakarma is the heart of classical Ayurveda – a structured programme of purification (shodhana) and rejuvenation that clears accumulated toxins (ama), rebalances the doshas and restores the body’s own capacity to heal. At Actymed, Panchakarma is our dedicated in-patient admission department, based exclusively at our 24-hour Thodupuzha flagship clinic, where patients receive structured, closely supervised care over the full course of treatment rather than a single outpatient visit.
The department is led by Dr. Ajeesh T Alex, with Dr. Ashna C Paulose serving as In-Patient (IP) in-charge, overseeing day-to-day care throughout the admission. What makes Panchakarma at Actymed distinctive is its integration with our sports medicine, orthopaedic and rehabilitation departments – the same classical detox and rejuvenation therapies are used not only for wellness, but as powerful tools for chronic pain, arthritis, neurological recovery and athletic regeneration.
Why Panchakarma Matters
Many stubborn conditions – long-standing joint disease, chronic back and neck pain, neurological weakness, and stress- and metabolism-related disorders – respond far better once the body has been properly prepared and cleansed. Panchakarma builds that foundation: it improves how the tissues respond to every therapy that follows, which is why it sits at the centre of our deeper treatment programmes rather than to one side of them.
The Panchakarma Process
Preparation (Purvakarma)
Every admission begins with preparation – internal and external oleation (snehana) and therapeutic sudation (swedana) through therapies such as Abhyanga, Pizhichil and the various Kizhi bolus treatments – to loosen and mobilise toxins and ready the body for the main procedures.
The Five Main Actions (Pradhanakarma)
The classical five procedures – therapeutic emesis (Vamana), purgation (Virechana), decoction and oil enemas (Niruha and Anuvasana Vasti), nasal therapy (Nasya) and therapeutic bloodletting (Raktamokshana) – are selected and prescribed individually, according to each patient’s condition and constitution.
Rejuvenation and Aftercare (Paschatkarma)
A graded return to normal diet and routine (samsarjana krama), together with rejuvenating (rasayana) therapies and lifestyle guidance, consolidates the results and helps them last.
What We Treat
Chronic and inflammatory joint disease, long-standing spinal and musculoskeletal pain, neurological and post-stroke weakness, stress, sleep and metabolic disorders, and general detoxification and rejuvenation for those seeking a genuine, medically-guided reset.
